Stomund, Captain of the Fidelis, is one of the most prominent non-playable characters encountered throughout your journey in Mournstead. Following his storyline rewards players with valuable gear, unique lore, and the coveted Faithful achievement upon completion. Understanding where to locate Stomund at each stage of his journey is vital to ensuring you do not accidentally fail his quest line.
Initial Meeting at Skyrest Bridge
You first encounter Captain Stomund early in the game upon reaching the Skyrest Bridge hub area. He stands near the Vestige of Ethryg, acting as a key merchant and offering vital dialogue regarding your shared path. Be sure to exhaust his dialogue options and purchase any needed items before advancing deep into the campaign.
As you progress toward Upper Calrath, Stomund will eventually depart from the hub area. He leaves behind a note along with the Pilgrim's Perch Key for players to collect. Speaking with the remaining soldiers nearby reveals that the captain has journeyed toward the manse.
Finding Stomund at the Abbey
Stomund makes his next appearance near the entrance to the Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters after passing through the Manse. You can find him tucked away in an inner courtyard hidden behind a stack of breakable wooden barrels. Interacting with him here officially begins his primary quest objectives.
He tasks you with recovering two missing fragments needed to restore a holy artifact. These two items are the Damaged Standard and the Tattered Banner scattered across nearby locations. You must bring both pieces back to him before proceeding into later boss arenas.
Locating the Banner Pieces
The Damaged Standard is hidden down in the flooded cellar beneath the Manse of the Hallowed Brothers. You will need to navigate through Umbral pathways and take a hidden elevator down to retrieve it. The second piece, known as the Tattered Banner, is located inside the Abbey grounds after defeating key enemies.
Once both pieces are safely in your inventory, return immediately to Stomund in his courtyard hideout. Handing over both items allows him to fulfill his duty and prepare for his final departure. Be sure to finalize any purchases from his shop inventory before concluding your conversation.
Completing the Faithful Quest
The most crucial warning for Stomund's quest is to avoid entering The Empyrean before delivering both banner items. Advancing into this zone too early will prematurely break the quest line and leave his mission incomplete. Resting or triggering events in The Empyrean before handing over the banners results in his failure.
After delivering the items, proceed forward into The Empyrean to locate the final site of his journey. You will find Stomund's impaled body resting along the grand staircase leading toward the main gates. Interacting with his remains yields Stomund's full armor set, his shield, his flail, and the Faithful achievement.
