Completing dueling feats during combat encounters in Hogwarts Legacy offers players a great way to earn extra experience and test their spellcasting precision. One challenge that frequently confuses players is the requirement to hit a ranger with Stupefy during battle. Because rangers often rely on unblockable attacks or long-range bow attacks, completing this specific objective requires a solid understanding of how counter-mechanics work in the game.
Understanding the Stupefy Counter Mechanic
In Hogwarts Legacy, Stupefy is not a spell assigned to your standard spell wheel, but rather a retaliatory stun move. It triggers automatically when you successfully block an incoming blockable attack using Protego and hold the defense button. Once activated, your character fires a stunning counter-blast directly toward your selected target.
The key to completing this dueling feat is target redirection. You do not need to block an attack originating directly from the ranger to stun them. Instead, you can deflect an attack from any melee enemy nearby and manually aim the resulting Stupefy projectile at the ranger.
Dealing With Unblockable Ranger Attacks
Poacher Rangers and loyalist crossbowmen frequently charge up powerful ranged strikes that flash red on your screen. These unblockable attacks cannot be parried with Protego, making it impossible to trigger Stupefy directly off their shots. Attempting to block a red indicator will result in your defense breaking rather than casting a stun spell.
To work around this limitation, keep at least one basic enemy alive alongside the ranger during the fight. Wait for a close-range foe to strike with a blockable yellow indicator, execute your parry, and swing your camera focus to hit the ranger with Stupefy. If the ranger is the only enemy left in the camp, disarming them first can force them to use secondary blockable attacks.
Optimizing Target Selection in Battle
Camera control plays a major role when trying to direct counter-attacks in crowded combat arenas. By default, Stupefy travels toward whichever target your lock-on reticle is currently highlighting when the parry completes. Practice shifting your focus to the distant ranger immediately after pressing the block button.
Mastering this technique makes completing combat challenges far less frustrating throughout your adventure. If a particular duel spawns without any blockable attacks available, you can also leave the fight and reset the enemy group to try again.
